About Project-Spirit
About Hugh Russell
I am enjoying my mid-life crisis by attending graduate school for fun and spending more time with my kids even if it is a work day. My current focus is on enhancing a framework for guiding spiritual growth. It is amazing to me how my previous work experiences are shaping not only my own spiritual growth but also my ability to guide others in their spiritual journey. I wish I had a good name for the role I play with others. For lack of a better term, I call myself a coach but I really dislike what that word has come to mean to most people. I am comfortable saying that I belong to the helping profession but I feel that the term “helper” is way too vague and unprofessional sounding title for me to call myself.

About Project-Spirit
Project-Spirit is devoted to analyzing and discussing the factors that influence an individual’s rate of spiritual growth. Skills exist that can be learned and developed to enhance spiritual growth regardless of which spiritual practice an individual follows. This site provides information on what those skills are and how they can be developed within the unique context of an individual’s life.
Project-Spirit does not promote any specific religion or lack of religion. I am a practicing Christian but I do not believe an individual’s faith qualifies him or her to judge the religious practices of another. I feel that God, as the creator and sustainer of the universe, is perfectly capable of communicating with us regardless of which religion we belong to. So I am open to learning from any spiritual or religious perspective while I work diligently to adhere to the tenets of my faith.
About Our Guest Spiritual Growth Contributors
Clay Beery, who lives and works in New Orleans, is blessed to be the husband of Leslie and father of Julia (8) and Jack (4). His plan for spiritual growth in 2010 involves supplementing daily devotion, scripture and prayer time with keeping a journal. He will be blogging about the key messages that he receives from following these disciplines and their impact on his spiritual growth as the year progresses. Clay has been singing with Shades of Praise, an interracial gospel choir in New Orleans, for the past several years, and with Leslie currently leads a bible study for other parents at their church.
